Gail E. Ober, 64, of Manheim, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at the Hershey Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Elizabeth G. White Ober. Gail was a graduate of Wilkes College with a Bachelor’s degree in music education. Gail had a deep passion and love for music. She was an accomplished bassoonist known for her musical talent and experience throughout central Pennsylvania. She performed with the Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Reading Symphonies, the Northeast Pennsylvania Philharmonic and the Allegro Orchestra of Lancaster. She also participated in various music ensembles in the Lancaster area and played in Hershey and Fulton Theatre productions. She gave bassoon lessons at Lebanon Valley College, Elizabethtown College and Millersville University as well as private instruction of bassoon and piano throughout the years.
A faithful and active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Manheim, Gail served on the church council, participated in the church orchestra, and provided solo music for the church throughout the years. Her interests included counted cross-stitch, bird-watching, viewing movies and vintage TV shows, and shopping.
Surviving are cousins David Ludwig, husband of Jill Ludwig of Lititz, Bruce Ludwig of Manheim, his son Kenneth Ludwig of Friendswood, TX, and his daughter Arielle Geig of Lancaster. Gail will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gail’s Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 50 North Main Street, Manheim, on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Penryn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Gail’s memory to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 129, Manheim, PA 17545 or the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603 .
