Dixie L. McFarland

August 4, 1945 — March 18, 2014

Dixie L. McFarland, 68, formerly of Manheim, started her new journey on March 18, 2014 at 8:55 a.m. Dixie suffered from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and underwent a double lung transplant in July of 2011. She died from complications from the transplant. Born in Lancaster, Dixie was the daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth Shirk Connelly. In April, 2011, Dixie retired from Armstrong World Industries, Lancaster, where she was employed as a Consumer Representative for 10 years. Dixie loved her coworkers at Armstrong and made lifelong friends that she cherished through her employment. Recently, Dixie traveled to Mexico and Japan to visit with family. Throughout her life, Dixie revealed an adventurous free spirit with an infectious personality that both friends and family adored. Dixie maintained her sense of humor to the end. Dixie will be fondly missed by her constant companion Pug dog Ernie, who has been graciously taken in by Dixie's lifelong "BFF" best friend, Linda Nauman. Dixie's daughters, son, granddaughter, and grand dogs were very special to her and she smiled each and every time one of them walked through the door.

Surviving Dixie are two daughters: Melody A. McFarland, wife of Gene Carpenter of Lancaster, Shannon M. McFarland of Lancaster, a son, Shawn R. McFarland, husband of Joanna Cook McFarland of Colorado Springs, CO, and a beloved, beloved granddaughter, Isabella A. "Peaches" McFarland. Dixie is also survived by her adored grand dogs: Violet, Hans, Coal, Penelope, and Carlos. Preceding Dixie in death is a sister, Dorothy Connelly and three brothers, Richard, Carl, and Arthur Connelly.

Dixie's family sends a special thank you to those of you who supported Dixie and her family during Dixie's illness, and who spent their time with Dixie supporting her care and being a friend to her. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
