Benjamin S. Landis

October 31, 1919 — January 5, 2012

Benjamin S. Landis, formerly of Landisville, died peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the apartment he and Marian shared, adjoining the home of grandson and family, Brad and Zoe Rohrer. He enjoyed 92 years of life. Ben and Marian celebrated 70 years of married life together in August, 2011. Ben was born in East Hempfield Township, a son of the late John J. and Nora Stauffer Landis. A retired farmer and backhoe operator, he was an active member of the Hempfield Ambulance Association for 20 years, logging 3500 calls. He was a life-long member of the East Petersburg Mennonite Church, where he formerly served as Sunday school teacher, trustee and treasurer. He enjoyed woodworking, rug hooking, and spending time with his family. Surviving beside his wife are two daughters, Marian, married to Sam Thomas, Landisville and Joyce, married to Glenn Rohrer, Lancaster, five married grandchildren, Janelle (Ryan Sauder), Marlisa (Sheldon Wenger), Jodie (Randy Brubaker), Geoffrey (Amy Shearer), Brad (Zoe` Baer), ten great grandchildren and a foster sister, Eleanor Nauman. Ben was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Sauder and four brothers, Earl, Abram, Norman, and John Landis. The family wishes to give special thanks to his loving care givers from Hospice of Lancaster County and from Lancaster Special Care. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a viewing and visitation with the family at the East Petersburg Mennonite Church 6279 Main Street, East Petersburg on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment service will be private and at the convenience of the family in the adjoining church cemetery. A shared memorial service celebrating Ben and Marian's lives together will be planned and announced at a later date.
