Agnes V Joerger

March 19, 1928 — May 17, 2012

Agnes Virginia Joerger, 84, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. She was the wife of the late Glenn A. Joerger. Born in Denver, Colorado, Virginia was the daughter of the late Donald A. and Lucie A. (Williams) Campbell. Virginia was a graduate of Oak Park-River Forest High School, River Forest, IL. Upon graduation she attended Edgewood Park School, Briarcliff Manor, NY. Upon completion of studies in NY, she attended what is now the IL Institute of Arts in Chicago, IL. She began her career in retail by working for Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago, IL. She also worked as a retail banker in Peoria, IL. While living in Ithaca, NY she worked as an assistant manager for the S & H Green Stamp store. Virginia also worked as a retail clerk at J.C. Penny for many years, both in Ithaca, NY and Lancaster, PA. Throughout her life she maintained a passion for the arts and music. She loved to travel across the country and enjoyed many visits to both Mexico and Canada. In particular, Virginia enjoyed attending many Scottish Highland Games here in the U.S. and in Canada. The sound of the bagpipes would always be a thrilling occasion, stirring pride in her Scottish heritage. Virginia was passionate about many issues affecting the world today. She was concerned about the environment, nature, conservation and animal welfare rights. She was an avid reader and felt education was of utmost importance to the very end of one's life. She maintained that learning should never stop no matter what age a person was. She was a loving wife and mother and will be missed by all. She is survived by a son Thomas Joerger; a daughter Kathleen, wife of the Rev. Christopher Hannum of Marietta, Georgia and two grandsons, David and Matthew (wife, Chari). Also surviving is a cousin, Ted Wilcox, of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Internment will take place in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Ithaca, NY.
