A. Floyd Imes

A. Floyd Imes, 88, of Manheim, died peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Hewitt, he was the son of the late Regia L. and Gladys Bennett Imes. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia “Pat” Imhof Imes who died in April of last year. Floyd was a U. S. Army veteran serving during World War II. In 1952 Floyd graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Penn State University; and was a lifetime member of the Penn State University Alumni Association. Floyd served as plant manager for the former Manheim Agway Plant for 27 years, he also supervised the seed production of soybeans and cereal grains in Bordentown, N.J. Previously he worked for Agway Inc. in Syracuse, N.Y. for 25 years; and then in the earlier part of his career was employed at the PA. Farm Bureau, Manheim, for 10 years. Following retirement he worked part time for over 16 years at the Manheim Auto Auction. Floyd was a lifetime member of the PA Seedsman Association, a member of the Soybean Council which was responsible for the release of new varieties; and had served as president of the PA Crop Improvement Association. He was an active and faithful member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Manheim, where he served as Deacon on the church consistory. Floyd was a member of the Manheim Rotary Club where he earned over 45 years of perfect attendance. Other memberships included: Manheim American Legion, Manheim V.F.W., Manheim Historical Society, the former Manheim Jaycees, and had served as member and president of the Manheim Chamber of Commerce. Floyd interests included: vegetable gardening, and obtaining a private airplane pilots license in his younger days. Throughout his life Floyd and his wife Pat shared a passion for travel. They traveled together extensively over the years and visited more than 6 continents and 50 countries. Floyd loved his large extended family of brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews; and he would create the time in his busy schedule to visit them throughout the country during his life.

Surviving is a brother, Upton husband of Shirley Imes of Everett, two sisters: Betty Robinson of Everett, and Mildred wife of Dewey Howser of Pocomoke City, MD., and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are two sisters: Martha King, Maxine Yokum, and two brothers Earl and Victor Imes.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Floyd’s service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 50 North Main Street, Manheim, on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville.
